Our Country Looks To Raise Nuclear Power Capacity To 5% By ’31

In a bid to expand its capacity in the field of nuclear energy, there will reportedly be set up as many as six nuclear power plants of 1,650 megawatts each at Jaitapur in western Maharashtra state. Presently, our 22 nuclear power reactors operate in a total of 7 states, while 18 reactors are Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors and 4 are Light Water Reactors as well.

Nuclear energy is the fifth-largest source of electricity for India, which has 22 nuclear reactors with a total capacity of 6780MW in operation and one reactor of 700MW was connected to the grid in January last year.

Notwithstanding the goal is outlined and the aim is lofty. Our country intends for increasing its atomic power contribution ten years hence. It exactly eyes to raise its capacity right from 3.2 % to 5 per cent by the year 2031.

It happens to be India’s largest clean energy plant with a total capacity of 9,900 MW. Nuclear power plants are a type of power plant that uses the process of nuclear fission to generate electricity. They do this by using nuclear reactors in combination with the Rankine cycle, where the heat generated by the reactor converts water into steam, which spins a turbine and a generator.

Our country proceeds ahead with this new proposed nuclear power plant project in partnership with France.

Last year French company EDF submitted to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Ltd its binding techno-commercial offer to build six nuclear plants.

In the meantime, it has been stated that the Jaitapur project is projected to bring $2.8 billion in revenue for the government.
