At least 33 people have died in floods and landslides in Nepal in the last one week. There has been heavy rain in the northwestern province of Karnali. Authorities have evacuated thousands of people from there to safe places. Hundreds of houses have been damaged by floods and landslides. 22 people are still missing in the province.

Nepalese rescue workers said that the continuous rains have made it difficult to reach the flooded hilly areas. A police spokesperson told local media Annapurna Post that police officers are being deployed in rescue operations. Apart from this, rescue work is being done by helicopter. In some areas, the water level of the Karnali River has risen up to 12 meters. Many bridges have been washed away. United Nations human rights organizations are also conducting relief operations in flood-affected areas.

Most of those who are still missing after the floods and landslides are residents of Kalikot district. Many people there have been evacuated to safety over the course of a week. The monsoon season in Nepal starts in June and ends in October. At least 110 people have died in rain-related disasters in Nepal this year, according to the government.
