Students’ Mental Health In India And The Need For Open Conversation

Mental Health

The more non-living things have made space around us, the more we have moved away from living things. An AI device may lovingly copy the voice of your mother or loved one, but it can never actually be a natural voice because the caring, supportive factor is missing in it.

World Mental Health Day is observed on October 10 every year. The day provides an opportunity for all stakeholders working on mental health issues to talk about their work, and what more needs to be done to make mental health care a reality for people worldwide.

Mental health is a state of wellbeing in which an individual is able to cope with everyday life stressors and demands, and has a sense of purpose and direction in life. Indian youth today face a range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, stress, and substance abuse.

While traditional Indian culture has always strongly emphasized mental and emotional wellbeing, the modern context of globalisation and rapid social change has created new pressures on young people that can impact their mental health.

Indian youth today need support to navigate these challenges and to maintain their mental health and wellbeing. Some data points that highlight the prevalence of mental health issues among youth in India include the following:

A study found that nearly one-third of Indian students suffer from some form of mental health disorder.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth in India.

-A study found that nearly 50% of Indian youth have experienced some form of depression.

By keeping some points in mind, we can take care of our mental health and wellbeing.

1. Get regular exercise. Exercise has many benefits for your physical and mental health. It can help reduce stress, improve your mood, and boost your energy level.

2. Get enough sleep. Sleep is important for your physical and mental health. It can help you cope with stress and reduce your risk for depression.

3. Eat a healthy diet. Eating a healthy diet can help you feel your best and reduce your risk for mental health problems.

4. Take time for yourself. Make sure to schedule some time each day for activities that you enjoy. This can help you reduce stress and feel more relaxed.

5. Connect with others. Spending time with family and friends can help you feel connected and supported. This can reduce your risk for mental health problems.

6. Do something you’re good at. Doing things that you’re good at can boost your self-esteem and confidence. This can help you reduce stress and feel better about yourself.

7. Help others. Helping others can make you feel good about yourself and can also reduce stress.

10. Take care of your physical health. Taking care of your physical health is important for your mental health. Get regular checkups, exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet.

World Mental Health Day is an important day to bring awareness to mental health and to break the stigma around it. It is a day to educate others about mental health, to provide support to those who need it, and to remind everyone that we are all in this together.
