Our big Bollywood seems to be not wholly embracing creative cinema. What we endorse as originally relishing production remains neither good editing nor an original story nor refined acting is scintillating tinsel town. It remains beyond our thinking as to why does Bollywood not modify. These days Bollywood makes endlessly a line of films portraying different kinds of stories. But we do not avail the fancy of a murder mystery Knives Out presenting gloriously complicated vein so ingeniously, and so delightfully.
What had once been spoken by a film figure Dilip Kumar still connects with the present-day actualities. Undeniably, the Hindi film industry is still devoid of novelty. How long will it continue to operate with adopted or spoofed substances? Like other numerous businesses, the filmmaking industry also runs in a similar income-inducing form or arrangement. There remains little effort in creating far-standard or superior films in Bollywood. That’s why we come to know of poor responses to fresh films.
If Bollywood produces Hindi films why does its preference go for Hollywood stories? Why are scripts written in a foreign language? The screenplay is written in English. According to Amitabh Bachchan, we get the script in English but read it in Hindi. Even other actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui are also testy over the scripts being given in the English language. This makes them rather hard to remember, understand, and then present the dialogue.
At the same time, if we talk about South films, the screenplay and dialogues are given in the native language. Therefore, the films produced in that distant region come in the category of success, as some react.
Hindi is the language that expresses our feelings but regular use of English mars the essence of films. Feelings come from the hearts so it requires dialogue and scripts in an indigenous medium. But this does not dominate in Bollywood, as several points. The film artists are supposed to be thinking and speaking in English. Talking in Hindi is just not part of their ego.
The story writer is said to be not properly remunerated according to his ability. They are given negligible opportunities. As a result, the film gets a very weak story. Why does preference fall on copying Hollywood films rather than giving opportunities to good story writers? Hence, solid content remains missing from Hindi films.
Nonetheless, Thuso Nokwanda Mbedu, a South African actress, who acted in the Hollywood film The Woman King, (2022) reacts: “Right now, if we are being honest, we are in a space where Hollywood is recycling stories, there are reboots of this, that and the other … as if there are not stories to tell. There is a plethora, there are a lot of beautiful stories to tell all over the world. It is just that people have to care enough to invest in them.”
