Opinion: Why I Think Wearing A Hijab Should Be A Matter Of Choice

Our country has strong arguments against hijab, but is it justified? No, it is nearly not. It is supported by arguing that if the girl students like to wear the school dress dupatta as a hijab, there should be no swift objection. If they like to cover their head with a piece of clothing, let it go on willingly. Those who go or oppose the use of this womanly wear find it totally against modernity. They also do not pause to state that wearing clothes like a hijab tends to pressure girls. However, they cannot keep their head open before males.

What the holy Quran says: “Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what they do.” (QS. An-Noor 24: Verse 30).

Further,

“And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment.” (QS. An-Noor 24: Verse 31).

The above-mentioned Quranic verses tell in a clear way that women should cover their faces and hair. So they must wear a headscarf or hijab to hide their grace from the menfolk. It disciplines both men and women strictly. Both have been asked to reduce some of their vision to be restrained and ethical in everyday vivacity.

When these verses act as a regulation to correct the standard for personal or individual life, the chaos and defiance of putting on a hijab look unnecessary. Hijab is a personal choice. We must not dismiss a prescribed dress just to be stylish or for other reasons. Head and face without the hijab go as defiance against the Quranic words.
