FYCO ( Fit Youth Club Ompora )To Inspire Youth To Stay Off From Drugs

Ompora budgam is one of the highly populated area of district Budgam. The area is very good in terms of education and other social activities. In order to keep the youths of Ompora fit and fine the respected citizens of this area take lot of initiatives in which FYCO is one of the best initiatives and praised by all locals of the area. The acronym FYCO( Fit Youth Club Ompora) has become a household name in the vicinity of Ompora and the adjacent villages.The main objective of the club was to provide young people with activities designed to keep them off the streets, immoral activities and other social evils.There are more than one hundred members in the club and is of first kind in the whole district. People from all walks of life like students, employees and businessmen from different areas are in the club who are doing regular physical activities and playing different games in the morning in Railway Station Budgam premises. All the activities are performed under the supervision of a qualified and professional Physical Educationist.

The club was started by Dr. Zahoor… who completed his PhD in Physical Education . And respectively did BPE from HVMP’s degree college of physical education and also did MPED from punjab University chandigarh and also have done PHD from Pondicherry central university and is currently teaching at Kashmir University.

Basit a member of FYCO ( Fit Youth Club Ompora) told the YouthKi Awaaz .I have been part of this club because of its consistency and motto to strive for a drug-free society.

To retain the interest of its members, the club frequently organizes trekking events in mountainous regions, cycling to different routes, and a plethora of activities under the vigil of senior members of the club.

Despite the absence of a playground in the vicinity, the members have shown utmost dedication to remaining indulged with the club irrespective of circumstances.

Another member of FYCO , Mustaq Ahmad Malla who is a central employee of Railway department told The Youth Ki Awaaz as we can see the society is involved in drugs youth are getting addicted to this novel disease and remain absence from the sports and exercise.

He believes sports and other physical activity is the best weapon against substance abuse Joining a sports team or academic club is a strong deterrent for drug abuse, Playing sports also helps to instill respect for one’s body, while academic pursuits instill respect for the mind. Both can lead to better life choices on and off the playing field. FYCO make them aware about different health hazards and their prevention, provide guidance, counseling and rehabilitation to youth addicted to drugs and organized drug de addiction programs, sports events, trekking events, recreational activities and other cultural programs . Mushtaq says his message to the youth is to shun the path of drugs and join the group FYCO and become healthy and fit person, which will surely give them solace.

The members of the FYCO Quoted by saying , ” Our goal is to get youth addicted to a good education and not to drugs — which is our guarantee.”
