Opinion: Why Is Kejriwal Demanding Pictures Of Hindu Gods On The Currency

Arvind Kejriwal’s sharp barb and blunt on the state of the economy suggesting putting the photos of gods on currency is a strategy to shed off its anti-Hindu image gaining grounds. The Bharatiya Janata Party attacking his credentials of a devout Hindu widely flaunting his beliefs, practices and rituals of a Hanuman bhakt to a tilak dhari has taken the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party off guard with the AAP desperately wanting to contain and counter the narrative before the assembly elections to Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh. Bharatiya Janata Party has been steady in charging Arvind Kejriwal over alleged scams from a liquor policy to the construction of new schools etc., only to be rebuked and junked by the AAP leadership.

I believe Aam Aadmi Party has played its politics safely and smartly by keeping itself away from all that has been dubbed as fictitious and frivolous for attempts made by its opposition casting aspersions on its political outlook and orientation. A free market, left-liberal etc by not getting into these arguments delivering social welfare schemes to the poor, oppressed and vulnerable, Kejriwal has been prompt and persuasive to the ideological debates in his conduct and capacity.

Education and healthcare are receiving the impetus. His regime has been faithful to its commitment to building primary infrastructure from scratch for the benefit of each and everyone likewise. Kejriwal hasn’t been apologetic on Hindutva but rather affirmative with his stance on the birth yatra, Yamuna aarti, Sundar Kand path etc., a move to consolidate and mobilize the majority.

For BJP, Kejriwal’s batting on Modi’s nationalism and majoritarianism pitch is the real problem souring Modi’s rating and popularity. Vocal in his criticism of him to assert this much more sharply, Kejriwal made a U-turn after banning firecrackers in the capital, suggesting centre to print the god Ganesh and goddess Laxmi photo on the currency behind Gandhi ji. I understand BJP is anticipating the outcome of it. With Kejriwal and his AAP having nothing to lose substantively gaining ground, Arvind knows when to pour in which ingredient. Let’s wait for the rest!
