Our History Pages Of Mistrust, Abuse And Misogyny

How dark is the con of man!

How malicious the descent of sapiens!

The shrill pages of history,

Echoing the sentiments of insensitivity;

Of hatred, mistrust, of abuse and misogyny.

Countless wars, thousands of battles, millions of deaths,

How ironic is the futility of all!

And yet, when I turn the pages of scriptures,

Fathom their words of ancient wisdom;

They tell me about a distant paradise,

Whisper to me the joys of a serene lifestyle.

In the chaos, winding maze, roaring furore, hasty ways;

How come humanity itself hasn’t yet succumbed to bloodthirst and destruction?

That why people still resent ‘evil’?

“Values are the cause”, people preach, unsure about the ones they still inhabit.

“Hear ye! Hear ye!”

“Do no evil! Follow no evil!”

“You’ll burn in the eternal fires of hell!”

“Have an encounter with the deadly Satan himself!”

What is evil? What are values? The debate hasn’t been put to rest-

They both are abstract ideas, relative terms, that’s what I believe at best.

4 years of age, elders would rage, why do you lie, aren’t you a devil?

Years have passed, maturity encompassed, constantly engaged in a habit of exchanging untrue words—

Which one of them do you think is more evil?

Why people sin? Why do they lie?

Don’t they know the virtues or they’re simply afraid to try?

Murder, rape, banditry, malice, despise;

Why is ethical corruption always on a rise?

Man is not God, none of them are Devil.

There’s always a middle ground, between the extremes of evil.

Dangling between the two worlds- of outright evil and blissful purity,

Lies the realm of man, who always has a choice.

Cut the thread and you’ll forever fall in the darkness,

Try to soar with it and you’ll stay closer to the light.

The thread is conscience, some call it the inner voice.

Why don’t we tell the kids the real cause of evil?

That there really isn’t the good and the evil; they are all but our own choices;

That they are what makes us who we are, and what we could possibly ever be.

That they don’t need the moral books and examinations, all they need to learn is to make the right choices;

That evil isn’t something definite, it is often relative.

Evil can be anything, that

Breaks the heart of loved ones,

Deprives people of the love they wholly deserve,

Takes away innocence from the hearts of children and contaminates their soul,

Replaces the bliss of love with the distant, harsh coldness of hatred,

Becomes the cause of innocent deaths.

They say kids are the future of the society,

Why don’t we make an effort to make them understand;

That they should forever restrain from murder,

But to listen to their heart,

Pay heed to the inner voice,

Soar with the dangling thread,

And decide, whether;

A lie will be better than the truth being told!
