“Of all the waste we generate, plastic bags are perhaps the greatest symbol of our throwaway society. They are used, then forgotten, and they leave a terrible legacy”. – ZacGoldsmith. Plastic waste might be compared to a multi-headed devil. The buildup of plastic debris in the ecosystem of the Earth has ill effects on humans, animals and environmental elements. Due to its versatility and cost-effectiveness, plastic is increasingly being used for innovative applications in sectors ranging from healthcare and medicine to aerospace and everything in between. Now, It has taken the form of a worldwide problem because of its non-biodegradability. Plastic waste management is a measure which encourages alternative and eco-friendly ways to handle plastic. The best way to defeat the demon is to adhere to the 6 R’s: refuse, reduce, reuse, repair, recycle, and rot. Less than 10% of the seven billion tonnes of plastic garbage produced globally yet have been recycled, which calls for urgent action. Atomic measures we take as individuals and government-led strategic initiatives are steps toward a sustainable future. A few of the popular landmarks in the world are replicated at Delhi’s Waste to Wonder Park. But the fact that it is made of plastic garbage makes it special, tackling the present waste issues. The Plastic Waste Management Amendment Rules, 2021, were announced which calls for a ban on the production, importation, warehousing, distribution, sale, and use of single-use plastic goods. “ It is the worst of times but the best of times because we still have a chance”. As responsible citizens, taking small steps even such as using jute bags or using toys from recycled plastic can make a difference
