Review
The main theme of this movie is poverty. In this film, Satyjit Ray beautifully portrays the image of a rural village. It is the story of a poor family who is continuously trying to get out of poverty. Their dreams and hopes to become rich or earn a decent amount of money to survive will never be affected by their current condition. This film teaches so many lessons. One thing which I noticed that Sarbojaya adores her daughter, but she forbids her daughter Durga from doing what she desires.Durga wants to do her own things, while Sarbojaya is more interested in preparing her to be an ideal housewife. Although like today’s bolywood films, this film has no happy ending. At the end, they leave their ancestor’s house and move to another village in search of work and a better means of survival. If you are watching this movie for entertainment purposes only, then this is not your type of movie. But if you are inspired to become a director, a filmmaker, or a cinematographer, then watching this movie proves very fruitful for you . This movie is worth to watch.
