Rajya Sabha Clings On To Neutral Term In A Bid To End “No Sir”

From now on, the ministry’s response in the Rajya Sabha will be gender neutral. There will no longer be used the word ‘No Sir’ while answering in the House. It appears like a scientific curiosity and preference for indigenous perception. There is a very clear purpose to such transition, and it suggests not so odd nevertheless. It was necessarily required, as it pursues a reciprocal nature of perception. The way it was accomplished is extremely substantial, but the message it tries to tell is impressive, assimilative and cohesive.

During the proceedings of the Rajya Sabha, the very word No Sir was repeatedly echoed in a meaningful expression. The request of Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi has been fulfilled as the Rajya Sabha Secretariat has agreed to take a very historic decision to ban the use of this word in utter reaction to a letter penned by her to the Parliamentary Affairs Minister.

In this letter, she put forward the demand to revise the use of phrases like ‘no sir’, which is often used in the House. In the very letter dated Sept 8, the MP of Maharashtra stressed a change in the male-dominated language. She said that this may seem like a small change, but it will go a long way to give e reasonable example to women in the parliamentary process.

Expressing her deep elation at the Rajya Sabha Secretariat’s decision, she writes it is a short step, but a big step. Thanks to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat for withdrawing the male-dominated language in Parliament in response to questions from ministers to women MPs.
