Spoilers ahead!
I must say I was really excited to watch “Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva” despite what people were saying about it even before its release.
Being a Marvel and Harry Potter fan myself, I was so happy that our very own Bollywood was making something of that scale, something with such a big budget. However, as soon as the movie started, I was cringing so hard.
Because, the writing is so poor, the storytelling is so poor, and honestly, the acting seemed poor too. Shah Rukh Khan saying stupid dialogues. I cannot even! Also, Nagarjuna’s character was thoroughly underwritten. What’s the point of roping in superstars if you can’t utilise them properly?
Talking about Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, or Shiva and Isha met one day ago and unhe ek dum se pyaar ho jaata hai. How? Isha gets angry at Shiva for not telling her his deepest, darkest secrets. Maybe because y’all just met and trust takes time. But, who am I to judge?
I am only a member of the audience who spent ₹2,000 to watch the film with her family on the first day of its release. My dad is not even returning the money I paid for the tickets to me because he hated the film that much. *fml*
Coming back to the film, they had to save Nagarjuna’s character, and instead of doing that, they’re dancing around singing “Kesariya”. Itne mein killers pahuch bhi gaye vahan i.e., Varanasi.
To give you another example, one of the dialogues has Amitabh Bachchan, the f*****g Guru of the Brahmansh, saying: “Tujhe DJ se dragon bana dunga.” Just Imagine Dumbledore saying some stupid s**t like this! I mean, why? Tum Guru ho na? Dhang se baat karo!
Yes, the VFX was good! No doubt about this, but aisi bakwaas story likhoge toh ghanta mazza aayega audience ko! For me, most of the movie was about Isha screaming Shiva, Shiva screaming Isha… Shiva-Isha, Shiva-Isha, Shiva-Isha, bas!
It took them 14 years to come up with this? I am so damn disappointed, as you can already tell. By the way, this is coming from someone who likes most movies.
The concept could have been better, the story could have been told so much better! When you’re taking Hindu mythology, deriving your characters from its characters, there is so much you can build upon and around.
I swear I would have written a better script, better story, and definitely, better dialogues, even though I am a doctor with no experience in writing. Maa kasam, main isse achha likh dungi.
The only good thing about the movie for me was Mouni Roy’s character, surprisingly. Yes, Junoon did really well. Anyway, I left the theatre with so many questions in my mind and a headache.
P.S. Shiva’s mom is Deepika Padukone. Her name is Amrita Jal-astra. Shiva’s dad, Dev, is the villain. I recognised Deepika from the shadow they showed in the film, but they didn’t reveal who Dev is yet.
P.P.S. I will only watch Part 2 if Ranveer Singh is cast as Dev and I get to see him shirtless throughout!
