How Indian Classical Music Can Be A Formula For Healthy Living

India has always been accounted as a country rich in culture, values, traditions and history where music is another precious Gem. This nation has a history spanning several million eras and developed over several geo-locations with extra-ordinary music worshippers who bowed and gave new era every decade. The major four Vedas of all times that includes Rig Veda, Samaveda, Atharva Veda, and Yajur Veda has carved the essence of Hindustani Classical Music. The birth of several raagas such as Ahir Bhairav, Asa Bhairav, Bairagi, Malhar, Darbari Kannada, Gaud Sarang, and Deepak have been not sung or played in any instrument. Amidst this increasing pressure and decreasing worshippers, worship has continued with the emergence of new worshipper who took Hindustani Classical Music to the extreme level. One such worshipper is the disciple from Maihar Senia and Rampur Senia Gharana Sangeet Ratna Dr. Sinchan Das who not only took the rare raagas to new level rather developed some of the smooth raagas such as Mouleshwari and gave Bengali khayal a new look.

However, these perception and admiration in a whole does not define his rare approach to the music; rather his specific tantrakari, which he gained from his Guru Pt. Kamal Mallick, Disciple of Ustad Allauddin Khan and Pt. Samaresh Chowdhury, Disciple of Pt. Ravi Shankar. This immense knowledge, wisdom, and guidance of Gurus have made him think for new diversities in his way of music worshipping known as Tantrakaari. This tantarkari has now taken an international step in the development of Music Therapy, a healing tradition that reflexed with health and natural connectivity.

Dr. Das took his first step into the world of music just at the age of three under his mother’s guidance while eventually rejuvenating his skills under Maestro such as Pt. Samaresh Chowdhury and Pt. Kamal Mallick. His tragedy musical journey encouraged by his father has today turn out to be not just the collections of music but a healing medium for many of his patients. He is a multifaceted person as he plays the role of a Guru, a teacher, a doctor, a student, a guide and many more. It may sound an impossible mission for many of us to accomplish but in every role Dr. Das has never let down individuals who looks up to him. Apart from this, he also took his vocal skills to be applied on some of his most prevalent mental health condition of this modern era such as insomnia, PTSD, Depression, anxiety and many more where success rate has been beyond expectation.

In one of the interview with Dr. Sinchan Das, he said “Indian raagas have different effects on our material as well as our spiritual body. ‘Samaveda’ is concerned with the old oral musical traditions of India. It is quite natural that the Upanishads derived from the Samaveda contain many references to musical terms. When there are two objects, and there is pressure or tension created between them, we got sound. The sound when unpleasant is noise. Basically, this is an ocean of energy, better to say ocean of magnetic energy where we all live. We are nothing but the tiniest part of that energy only; that stable energy field is called ‘Aadi’, no duality exists. In the long long long run, due to some vibratory turmoil in the energy field the field become unstable and to stabilize that instability the entire energy-mass conversion take place. From this point, music has an extensive role on the nature. According to Hindu mythology, there is the concept of ‘nirakar brahma’. When it starts to vibrate, there is creation of ‘Naadbrahma’ or ‘Ananata naad’”

His view towards the humanity and Indian Classical Music has changed the growth of psychosomatic diseases and increasing epidemic of depression and anxiety that affected the life. This approach with Hindustani Classical Music has made the divine form of performing art to control the mental issues of the people. One such instance has been found when Dr. Sinchan Das performed a rare Raaga of Darbari Kannada on patients of suppressive personality and found that these people just started to cry and speak-out the huge pressure that have been within her from years. Therefore, these instances justify that music is not only a part of the culture or providing us enjoyment rather it reduces the grief, diseases, and other psychosomatic stressors that have been affected the life of an individual.

He has been the founder of a new era in the history of Indian classical music and therapeutic approach, where all the age groups are strongly attracted towards his music. He has demonstrated publicly that, Indian classical have that potential to correct disharmonies in human and even animals also. His magnetic voice and performance in capable of pouring life force within a traumatized patient also. Indian classical music is our pride as well as our asset.
