On 15th August 2022, the 75th year of independence of India, the convicted rapists ofBilkis Bano were released under the remission applied by the Gujarat Government. They were greeted with garlands by the members of the ruling party. On the day on which our PM tells us to respect women, the people who are a threat to society are released by the judiciary system.
This incident clearly shows the condition of the women in India. The women who are harassed and raped are seen as the culprit/accused and the person who has done this type of offence is accepted and garlanded with flowers. It is a matter of shame for the people of the nation.
We don’t know what Bilkis Bano, the lady who was gang-raped during the 2002 Gujarat riots with her daughter being killed in front of her must be going through right now.
The release of these convicts actually encourages men to harass and rape whoever they want to (women) and gives them the power and liberty to do whatever they want to.
The justification/excuse given for the release of the rape convicts was “the convicts were Brahmins and had good sanskaar [principles or morality]”.This shows how much the ruling party is focused on religion and what they think about the women of our country.
The release of these people is a reminder to the upcoming generations that democracy and justice is going to fall down easily, and we, as the people of India, need to come together to bring reforms and make our country democratic,justice-serving and the India which we wanted, and we want it to be in today’s era.
I would personally like to request the President of India and CJI of India to revoke the remission decision and put the rape convicts back in jail as they are roaming free with no guilt and smiling free, and the violation of the remission law is done by the Gujarat Government.
“A woman is not an object. She is not something; she is someone. You treat a woman with respect. She is not your toy. She doesn’t owe you anything just cause you are a man. When she comes to you for comfort, you listen to her. Grow up and start treating women how they deserve to be treated.”-Unknown
