So, what do you expect from a female superhero? Skintight, curvaceous spandex suits, a uniformly perfect body shape, and, most importantly, female dominance (femdom), is enough to satisfy a man’s fetish fantasies!
When I first heard Marvel was making a series about, She-Hulk, I was skeptical given her history of hypersexualized versions in print media… but after seeing the trailer, I was blown away!
This is not what I dreamt of!
Our superhero isn’t dressed in a two-piece latex suit. Instead, she is just a regular Jane in her 30s pursuing a successful legal career. After seeing the trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, I couldn’t wait to see her in action, and the day finally came.
In the very first scene of the series, when we meet her for the first time, she was about to go into the courtroom just like an everyday attorney, instead of entering the scene smashing cars or kicking hundreds of minions!
The camera cuts to a flashback in which Tatiana and her cousin, Bruce Banner, better known as the Hulk, are involved in a car accident. During the collision, something unexpected occurs, and that’s how our protagonist acquires superpowers.
How does she obtain her abilities? What will she do with her newly discovered superpower abilities? And how will she cope with her normal attorney life along with the alter ego? I am leaving everything for you to discover.
I just finished the first episode, and the writer, Jessica Gao, has already wooed me. The incredible thing she has done, in my opinion, is to give us a human story, portraying She-hulk as an average, career-seeking woman rather than a butt-kicking superheroine with no alter ego conflict.
The best thing about the lead actress, Tatiana Maslany, is how she played Jennifer Walters / She-Hulk in the most realistic way possible. She is witty, ambitious in her career, and enjoys being single. There is certainly a lot to discover about her, particularly her superheroine alter ego, her relationship, and most importantly, her hero’s journey.
Here are three reasons why you should watch She-Hulk.
- If you are disturbed by the sexual objectification of female superheroes in movies and games and are looking for something new and unconventional,
- If you are in your 30s and single and are experiencing existential crises because of a younger coworker, watching She-Hulk may help you maintain your self-worth.
- If you’re tired of feminism being imposed in plots, you should definitely give it a try…
In addition: Since the day I saw Dhaakad, I’ve had a question that hasn’t left my mind. Why did the film fail to connect with the masses, despite excellent performances by Kangana Ranaut and Divya Dutta, and near-Hollywood-scale action scenes? Finally, I’ve found an appropriate answer.
It is not always necessary for the protagonist to be like Milla Jovovich from Ultraviolet or to kick male villains in order to demonstrate feminism; instead, having an intelligent and subtle plot can work wonders.
