Expressing gratitude to the people of the country for their support in the construction of the Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said all the credit goes to the people of Bangladesh. She said, ‘I am really grateful to the people of Bangladesh for standing by me in this way. Their strength (for me) is the greatest strength.

The Prime Minister conveyed the greetings to all at the beginning of the cabinet meeting held at the Secretariat on Sunday. He presided over the virtual meeting from Ganobhaban.

Replying to the congratulations and best wishes of her cabinet colleagues and officials, Sheikh Hasina said, ‘These greetings are for the people of my country. Not for me, for the people of Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister said the construction of a bridge across the river Padma is a history. In that case, the finance minister and the secretary who were there did not skimp on the allocation of money; Rather how we can do it with our own money has made things easier. He thanked all concerned including the finance ministry for this and said, ‘This war has started since 2012. How many slanders, conspiracies have to be dealt with. And the saddest thing is that if the work on the bridge had been started earlier, it would have been possible to finish it earlier.

Sheikh Hasina said, “Another thing that amazes me is that some of our economists and intellectuals have said that it will not be viable, who will run from here, no money will be raised.” But what is happening now Mentioning that the Padma Bridge will radically change the livelihood of the people, the Prime Minister said manga used to appear in North Bengal every year before the construction of Bangabandhu Bridge. But after the construction of this bridge, there is no more manga. There, the Padma Bridge will play an important role in establishing a direct supply chain with the South. With the arrival of hilsa season, it will be possible to get fresh hilsa in the capital, on the other hand, fishermen will also benefit. “The Padma Bridge is a huge milestone in changing the destiny of the people of our country,” he said.

Referring to the World Bank’s false allegations of corruption at the beginning of the construction of the bridge, the Prime Minister said, “It was never acceptable and after that I announced that I would build the Padma bridge with my own money and not take other people’s money.
