Trigger warning: gun violence, death
On May 29, 2022, a memorable Punjabi voice and Congress leader, Sidhu Moose Wala, was shot dead in broad daylight. His security was lessened to four from six the day before this incident. And, on May 29, two more of his guards were sent someplace else by the Punjab government.
The confidential letter, which should remain under the closet, was widely shared on Twitter and media handles emphasizing the self-announced simplicity of newly elected Punjab’s chief minister, Bhagwant Mann, by cracking down against the VIP Culture. Hence, the questions posed to the regime became even louder and sharper.
On May 29, Sidhu left his village in his new Mahindra Thar, leaving his bulletproof car and guards behind, reportedly due to a space crunch in the vehicle. Soon after his departure, his father followed him with his bodyguards.
After a few minutes, Sidhu noticed an unknown car following him and thought that this might be a fan chasing him for an autograph and photo. Soon the car overtook his Thar. He the car coming from the opposite direction, but the criminals never gave him time to react.
How Did It All Play Out?
First, they took a shot at his tyres to keep him from escaping, and then they targeted him and started shooting from automatic assault rifles. Bullets found at the spot of the killing help us infer that an AN94 Russian assault rifle was used during the assault.
The autopsy report claims that he had 19 bullet injuries and probably died within 15 minutes of being shot. On the very same day, Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar took the responsibility for his murder by sharing a Facebook post.
Brar is a close aide to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. In the post, he claimed the singer’s name came up in the murder investigation of an Akali Dal leader, but no action was taken against him.
Gangster Bishnoi was taken out of prison earlier this week to be questioned by the police on the killing of Sidhu. Bishnoi reportedly told the police that Brar found out about Sidhu helping his manager, who was linked to Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera’s murder in August last year.
Bishnoi is under the custody of the Delhi Police special cell and his custody has been extended for five days by a Patiala court on Sunday (June 5, 2022).
Even as more than a week has gone by since the singer was killed at Jawaharke village in Mansa, the police are still clueless about the identity of the assailants.
What Happened After The Crime?
After scouring the footage of the CCTV cameras installed at various points from his house at Musa village to the crime spot, the police have now started checking all petrol stations and hotels in the area.
The cops have assorted pictures of the Corolla and the Bolero which were used during the crime. Sources said the Mansa police had arrested three more persons. Some suspects from Haryana were also being questioned in connection with the singer’s murder.
The police are said to have obtained information about the suspects from CCTV cameras and intelligence agencies. The sources further said the police had obtained new video footage of the killers, which was taken by a young man passing by the spot.
The seven-eight-second-long clip purportedly shows one of the assailants shooting at Sidhu’s Thar. When the killers saw the man filming them, he was also shot at, but he escaped unhurt.
Meanwhile, Mansa SSP (senior suprident of police) Gaurav Tora claimed the police had got several vital clues and the killers would be nabbed soon. Sidhu, along with two associates, was traveling in his vehicle to see a relative last Sunday, when an anonymous persons fired nearly 30 bullets at him.
While the singer was declared brought dead, his two associates received injuries and are undergoing treatment in Ludhiana‘s Dayanand Medical College.
Sidhu Moose Wala’s Love For Guns
Sidhu got his fame through the great singing career he had. He faced the controversy many times and was also on people’s target for promoting gun culture, but the truth is everyone enjoyed those guns in his videos and the voice of the late singer even more.
His songs rule the farms of Punjab, clubs, gyms of Delhi, and even parties in the US. His signature thigh thumping was loved by millions. He was known as a song releasing machine for releasing nine songs in just 15 days. He was a man who conceded who he was. Let me tell you how.
Once, during an interview, he admitted that he adores guns and if some people thinks that he is promoting a gun culture, then so be it. He was clear about his views and earned every bit of popularity in just five years of his singing career.
The song “The Last Ride” was his last creation. How ironic! He will be missed by his millions of hip hop and Punjabi music enthusiasts, including me. RIP Sidhu Moose Wala!
