People are an essential part of our society. Men used to only manage livelihood and women used to take care of men and their children; that was the organised structure we used to follow back in the day.
But now things have changed. Men have also started taking care of children, household chores and other important things of life and women have started taking care of livelihood. All these changes are now acceptable to our society.
We don’t judge if a man cooks food or handles other household chores or a woman works late at night or is the sole financial supporter. So if we can accept the changes in men’s and women’s duties towards each other or society, why can’t we accept the fashion exchanges between men and women.
If a woman can wear baggy men’s shirt, t-shirt, jeans, boots, trousers and pants, why can’t a man wear a flower print pink shirt or saree with trousers or paint their nails, or braid their long hair or wear jewellery?
Why do we think that if a man dresses in what is deemed women’s clothing, they must be gay or transgender? We project ourselves to think men should be macho or total manly in their fashion style as well as their personality; otherwise, they won’t be accepted by society. People will think they are weak.
This needs change. We should appreciate those fashion influencers who are not afraid of experimenting with men’s clothing. Siddhartha Batra, Ranveer Singh, and many others are trying to do something new with their clothing.
Why can’t middle-class men accept this evolution of fashion? Why can’t they let go of the orthodox mentality towards men’s fashion?
