With women’s day approaching, I would like to share an important aspect related to the history and origins of women’s day. To know the future, we need to know the roots.
Women’s day was started by women who were facing exploitation at the work place, not to mention they also lacked the basic right to vote. They were not getting equal pay for equal work. Their working conditions were not appropriate and women-friendly.
So, around 15,000 women marched through New York city in the US in 1909—demanding better pay, voting rights and fixed working hours. This women’s day’s walk was organised by the Socialist Party of America.
Our grandmothers and other ancestors (women) have walked on a long path of struggle for their rights, including: freedom, education, choosing one’s partner, and saying “no” firmly.
Since then, several positive changes have occurred, but as women, we are still unable to walk on the earth and feel as free as a flying bird. What do you think: who will help us fly freely? Only we can because we need to win by fighting and standing up for ourselves.
Anyhoo, I and my friends have planned our women’s day such that there will be food and fesitivity. We all discussed how we can relax for the full 24 hours on the day, as it is a day dedicated to all the beautiful women on this planet.
Speaking of beautiful women, we can all learn from the life of Pakistan’s iron lady, Muniba Mazari. Mazari is an activist and motivational speaker who was born in Balochistan. She got married early, at the age of 19. After two years of being married, she encountered a life-changing experience.
She endured countless injuries in a car accident. Her backbone was pulverised. She suffered multiple fractures in her arms and shoulders. She was crushed physically, head to toe, but mentally, she had immense courage and strength. She refused to give up!
