Why has there been an uproar on recently released “Kashmir Files” premiering the atrocities and brutalities on Kashmiri Pandits forcing them out of their inhabitation? Whosoever was responsible for muzzling and crushing their views, values, and voices should have been brought to justice.
But it never appeared to be happening at the first instance, with most from amongst us making hue and cry of fiction solely about profits post-release. Productions artfully devised displays and deceptions forcing an adrenaline rush in the audience. These deceptions asked them to believe the screen than those who suffered and sacrificed their lives for lack of state incompetence.
As for Vishwanath Pratap Singh, who stormed to power with the support of the Bharatiya Janata Party, stoically stayed mute and silent when it came to ensuring equality, dignity, rights, and justice for families who lost whatever little they had to surface and survive. So those daring questions on the position of seculars and liberals should first ask so-called dear nationalists what made them prone and vulnerable to taking a stand irrespective of being wrong and rejected?
Maybe, the audience feels it is more convenient to connect with the content than the pure questions annoying, frightening and irritating them from within. Thus the makers of this film wisely chose what had to be presented, contested and debated for plain publicity and promotion. But unfortunately, they were myopic about the reasons and rationalities behind it.
