The Indian Women’s 20 km walk team, comprising Ravina, Bhawna Jat and Munita Prajapati on Friday made India proud as they clinched a historic bronze medal in the ongoing World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships in Muscat, Oman.
China secured a gold medal while Greece finished third in this 20km walk team event.
The quest for a medal for the Indian women’s team ended after a 61-year wait at the World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships yesterday. The men’s team had secured a bronze medal in 2012.
Meanwhile, India’s Reshma Patel finished 22nd in the women’s U-20 10km event with a timing of 53:10.
Bhawna Jat, who hails from Kabra village in Rajasthan’s Rajsamand district was India’s first female race-walker to qualify in the Tokyo Olympics (2021). She finished 32nd (1:37:38) in the Women’s 20km Race Walk Final at the Tokyo 2021.
The ongoing World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships is the first event of the year for race-walkers. The race walking championship was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
