By ordering a full-scale military invasion in Ukraine, Russia has not only violated the Minsk agreement of peace, cooperation and co-existence but has also violated the territorial sovereignty of Ukraine by putting civilian lives at great risk. Vladimir Putin should, by all counts, be held accountable for his misadventures and his shortcomings in breaking the stalemate from annexing Crimea to Donbas.
His resolve has more often been about displaying his muscular macho realism than kneeling down for negotiations, persuasions and deliberations in constructively arriving at a consensus. Ukraine’s camaraderie and cordial ties with NATO have long been haunting Putin, who has been asking Ukraine to draw a line with America’s interference in a region that has a history of conflict for power.
Thus, Russia was in no mood to offer concessions, concluding in what we have seen before us, with Ukraine being surrounded by all sides. NATO allies are holding emergency talks on the way ahead and on providing military and humanitarian aid to distressed Ukraine. They have warned Russia to not further trigger the situation with the geopolitics of Central Asia.
