Innovation is a precious gift given to us by the human brain, and the invention of social media is one such innovation. The 21st-century world is now a synonym for the virtual world. A decade ago, we had just been introduced to this world of social media and today, they have become a part of our life.

The beeping of our mobile phones continues from morning till evening; we wake up by checking our emails and bid good night with our good night forwards on WhatsApp. This social world is now a part of our life in which we share real emotions and empathy through emojis and laughter through memes. And we are changing just like Snapchat’s bitemojis.

The average time spent by kids and teens on social media is 5-7.5 hours a day.

The Impact Of Social Media On Today’s Youth

As per a survey, the average time spent by kids and teens on social media is 5-7.5 hours a day. The impact of social media is physically as well as mentally adverse on human beings. This shift of living virtually has diminishing effects on our real life. But we can’t simply blame humans for these adverse effects.

Our new normal itself demands a massive use of digital sites and applications. For example, students need to be online to attend their classes, adults need it for doing their work from home, and business owners need it for communication and marketing, as is the case with freelancers. Directly or indirectly, we all are dependent on the internet to live our lives.

How Our Digital Lives Impact Our Mental Health

These days, a few words we’ve been commonly hearing among youngsters as well as adults are anxiety, overthinking and depression. Due to Covid-19 over the past two years, we’ve had to be at our homes for safety and maintain social distancing everywhere, except with our mobile phones, with which we are not able to maintain distance for even half an hour. That is why we are facing these problems.

Our screen-time is exceeding day by day; we feel overwhelmed by seeing everyone happy, exploring new things, getting the ‘perfect’ jobs, going on national-international trips, except us. It’s a feeling of losing something, a failure in one’s life that social media is aiding and causing a deterioration in our mental health.

Productivity And Time Management

The need of the hour is to discuss daily life productivity and time management. When we get something, it’s in our hands to make proper use of the time and that’s what we need in the case of social media and other websites. Social media can have an adverse influence on our lives but we can cope with it by just managing our time properly and making a day productive.

Talking on social media is a boon for humans but its excessive and irrelevant use is harmful.

And our habits play a crucial role in this. We can have a productive day by making good habits. Start your day with meditation and exercise, which is essential for your mental as well as physical health. Setting goals for the day and completing them will save your screen time a lot. Set time for each task in a day, in this way, you would be able to manage your time and feel self-satisfaction. Read books and go for motivational videos, they help you in finding your purpose in life and making a better version of yourself.

How To Use Social Media To Your Advantage

Everything in this world has pros and cons. Talking on social media is a boon for humans but its excessive and irrelevant use is harmful. So, we need to have a balanced use of it and also have a balance between our real and virtual life. As we know, “All that glitters are not gold.” The same goes for our social media use. Everything we see on social media is not true, or we can say that it is half true. To dishearten yourself or compare yourself will eventually lead you to lose yourself.

Everyone is not the same nor is anyone’s life the same as the other’s. So stop comparing yourself or your life. Social media is a part of our life, not our whole life. We’ve our real world, which is far more beautiful and heartening. We should be grateful for all of that and try to cherish the things that we have in our real world. Our good deeds, empathy towards others, forgiveness, appreciation or encouragement of others is what we need in today’s era. From now on, we should ensure that we use social media in the best way, apart from diving into adversity.
