“Boyfriends and girlfriends will come and go, but this is for life.” Yes, you guessed it right. A very fascinating quote from the most loved web series FRIENDS, said by Phoebe Buffay. This quote pretty much sums up the entire concept of FRIENDS. The one message that we should learn from this series is that friendship is very important.
Friends may find their dream careers and relationships that make them happy, but their friendships stay strong till the finale.
In the series, there are six friends, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Joey, Ross and Rachel. They go through various life experiences such as love, marriage, divorce, fights, heartbreaks, children, new jobs and job losses and all sorts of drama. But one thing remains the same, their unyielding friendship.
Friends can help you celebrate good times and provide support during bad ones. Friends prevent loneliness and friendship helps us open up to the full experience of life. The same was shown in the series as they celebrated Thanksgiving, birthdays, etc.
Joey makes senseless jokes and Chandler make sarcastic comments in order to make their friends laugh.
While four of the six titular friends paired up into two couples, Joey and Phoebe never did, although they flirted a bit over the years. When Monica and Chandler were dating secretly and when it was revealed before everyone, all were very happy and they ended up together with twins.
On the other hand, Phoebe said that Ross and Rachel were meant to be together. They were like lobsters who find their fellow lobsters and mate for life. The lobster line describes that all the friends who found each other stayed together and will continue to be in each other’s lives forever.
Phoebe ended up with Mike and he called her “wonderfully weird”, which perfectly fits her character. Unlike the five friends, Joey never finds true love over the course of the series. Fortunately, for him, he’d have more time. Joey lived for women and food and he could not share his food with anyone.
While the characters were fictional, the inspiration behind the show was very real. Through Chandler’s neurotic humour, Joey’s questionable acting career, Monica’s obsessive control, Ross’s many failed marriages and Rachel’s need to grow up, they all get through it because as Phoebe so eloquently puts it, “This is for life.”
