There is a hint of churning in UP’s political future as any past discussion on its electoral standards does not fit in the prevailing political circumstances. However, the Assembly elections are going to be crucial this year.
The political party that will prevail over the rest remains unclear. The chance for the Samajwadi Party (SP) does not wholly appear bright amidst the shift in the political scenario. Though the mainstream still projects a bright future for the saffron party (BJP), is it a sure shot? Anti-incumbency always remains an important factor during elections. However, the BSP, Congress, AIMIM and AAP are trying their shot in this sequel of the UP elections.
If we notice the Muslim candidates who have been selected to contest the Assembly polls in the State, their number comes to 17 out of a total of 125 seats so far declared by the Congress party in its first list. It includes both men and women across different constituencies. Does it show up at more than 20% of the announced seats?
Some say it is more than enough as the grand old party still relies upon the winning capacity of the Muslim candidates. Others would shun it by reacting that Priyanka Gandhi assures the Muslims of favouring the community at least on the electoral plane. This particular choice, of course, can not be considered a little bit pointless.
After all, in every moment after this very stunning announcement, the fortunate candidates have expressed their kind gratitude to Priyanka Gandhi. It is a political opportunity for them to prove their leadership on the ground. Still, it is a kind of responsibility when the polls come around.
We are certainly supposed to be living in the odds of web norms. It will not be completely incorrect to point out that the Congress party expects something in this year’s Assembly elections again after an extended gap of 30 years. It sees a ray of hope.
