Rather than ridiculing AAP’s Chief Minister candidate Bhagwant Mann, political parties like the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress should introspect a little. AAP Chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, by taking people’s feedback through calls and messages, have confidently approved Mann’s candidature. This has taken the fight to the BJP and Congress. The Akalis are yet to announce their probable chief minister face.
Secondly, AAP’s recent show in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections has given plenty of reasons to the electorate to ponder if for tall promises of AAP to rebuild the basic infrastructure for the people ensuring their well-being, wellness and welfare from healthcare to employment, which has hardly been acknowledged and attended by Akali and Congress, who, unlike others, have ruled the state and deprived it of resources to advance and modernise itself. Punjab has been the harbinger of the Green revolution and the falling low of development indices is truly chilling and challenging, with many migrating abroad for better opportunities.
Instead of pressing these concerns, all political parties are running after Bhagwant Mann, who is notoriously known for his drinking habits. If it is so, then who should take the blame for the youth’s neck-deep addiction to substance abuse? It would be better to expose this double standard than to conveniently pick up plots for political fuel and mileage. A lot will be left to be answered after the elections are over.
