Muslim Hawker Beaten In Aligarh For Not Saying “Jai Shri Ram”

In Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, members of the Bajrang Dal allegedly beat a Muslim man selling clothes with sticks on 31 October for not saying “Jai Shri Ram”. Two members of the Bajrang Dal are accused of beating the Muslim man.

As per a report by The Quint, according to the local people, the father and son accused of this attack are associated with the Bajrang Dal. The police arrested them after this incident. The victim, Amir Khan, was taken to the local district hospital and from there was referred to JN Medical College Hospital.


When Khan was showing clothes to customers in Nagla Khem area of ​​Aligarh, the accused reached the spot and asked him his name. Upon learning that he was a Muslim, he was forcibly asked to chant “Jai Shri Ram” and touch the feet of a Hindu deity in the calendar. The accused also tried to set the victim’s motorcycle on fire.

Khan says that the local women, who were his potential customers, tried to save him but were not successful. He alleged that the accused also snatched his phone and ₹10,000 in cash from him.

Khan’s uncle said, “My nephew Aamir does the work of selling clothes. He was beaten up by goons in Nagla Khem. There was a crowd in the village at the time of the incident. According to villagers, the goons were associated with Bajrang Dal, which continues to create tension in the village.”

On Khan’s complaint, the police registered a case under sections 223 and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC. Aligarh Police said that the incident actually started with a clash after a dispute over the cost of clothes sold by Khan.

Aligarh Police tweeted and said, “There was a dispute over the cost of clothes. A police team immediately reached the spot and took the injured to the hospital. An FIR has been registered against the accused Raju and his son Devesh and they have been sent to jail.”
