Is it possible to monitor someone’s internet user activity?

Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, DIG Shah Alam said that internet is a completely open world. Here every action of the user is under surveillance. There is no chance of getting over the crime. Therefore, no behavior can be done using the internet which falls into the category of crime.

Khandaker Farzana Rahman, chairperson of the criminology department of Dhaka University, thinks that it is not possible to stop violent extremism only through police activities. He said that besides government and non-government organizations, social organizations can also play an important role in this. Reviewing the crimes committed in the last 20 years, it is seen that violent extremism is one of the problems.

Sheikh Muhammad Usman Ghani, joint secretary general of the Bangladesh National Imam Association, said violence was being spread in the society by spreading rumors or false information on the internet. Just hearing something and spreading it is enough to be a liar. He said that as soon as you see something on the internet, you have to be careful about spreading it among others. Religious leaders must come forward to prevent violent extremism.

Imdadul Haque, general secretary of the Internet Service Providers Association (ISPAB), said the media must come forward to prevent violent behavior on the internet. It will be easier to control such crimes if journalists cooperate in spreading awareness about it.

Mursalin Nomani, president of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity, said that everyone should be aware of the truth and falsehood in the use of internet content. He advised the parents to keep a close watch on their child’s internet usage in a friendly manner.

The discussion was chaired by Arif Sohail, Advisor, CCA Foundation. M Aftabuzzaman, executive director of Apon Foundation, a non-governmental organization, and Mohammad Abdul Quddus, liaison manager of Rupantar, also spoke on the occasion under the chairmanship of Kazi Mustafiz.

In the second phase of the meeting, 29 students from different universities and madrasas were awarded as ‘Truth Ambassadors’ for their awareness programs.
