How Our Festivals Have Been Politicised

Celebrating a festival with an aim to preserve diversity and plurality should be applauded and commended, bringing people from all walks together, enhancing their understanding of each other’s faith, belief and practice system, ensuring their assimilation and adaptation. It truly represents the uniqueness inherent in our culture and civilization, establishing our credentials as Indians.

However, this definition has been decisively altered over the last few years, suiting the interests and identity of the groups involved in its projection. Dictation of consent and choices become the objective, guiding a moral and ethical individual devoid of critique, reason and rationality.

It is this triumph that has so far successively taken precedence apart over anything else, creating confusion and crisis of sorts for a person to be his full and finest self and being. In this regard, the interpretation of religious texts and literature has but offered access to dharma gurus to perform as they please, emotionally and mentally casting their spell on our conscience and consciousness.

Reinvigoration of our souls and spirits never really happens as we become too calm and content.
