West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo, Mamata Banerjee’s resounding victory in Bhabanipur, with a record margin, indicates that she is here to dominate.
Banerjee dictates the pulse of personality-driven politics, which has been widely appreciated and acknowledged by the electorate. It has also hit the nerve of the common and ordinary. It is with this perception our leaders appeal to us, seeking consent from us.
Unlike a Narendra Modi, who is a firebrand Hindutva icon, mixing and matching his success in development indices from “Smart Cities” to digital India, Mamata Banerjee is more associated and attached with her roots.
She chooses to communicate with the emotions and sensibilities of the individual lagging behind in all aspects—social, political, economic etc.—leading to political capital and currency for her.
Don’t we know how a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) misread and misinterpreted this analysis, jubilantly honouring the turncoats from Trinamool Congress. It was momentary and short-lived. Though, Mamata didi lost Nandigram by a whisker, she was always active and encouraging, when it came to getting involve with her constituents and engaging with them.
I am of the opinion with this title, didi would become far better placed as a regional leader negotiating; and bargaining with political parties across the spectrum, for politically and electorally fighting the BJP. Nevermind the disillusioned Indian National Congress marred by discontent and desertion.
Didi has so far maintained a stoic silence, but she may warm up to the idea of a federal front, limited in scope and size, and with a discounted Congress least reluctant in adapting to the change, refusing to disown it’s zamindari (fuedal) mindset.
For, this reason Mamata Banerjee has been reiterating TMC’s rank and reach as the people’s alternative, standing against a corporatised BJP high on resources rather than reason.
Don’t we know how the CBI, ED etc. were deployed by the centre against Mamata’s nephew in different cases and matters. based on mere allegations? It has all been settled by didi’s befitting reply in the bypolls that just concluded.
