Poem: When The Great War Is Over

When the great war is over

When the great war is over
And you see the birds singing in the sky
Take the last train to the city of your dreams
Come home my love, it’s time to bid our yearnings goodbye.

Under the bright starlit sky
I’ll kiss you like it’s our last night together
And the sand of the hourglass shall freeze
When we make our promises between now and forever.

I’ll sing soft lullabies to lull you to sleep
While your dizzy fingers play with my careless locks
And the three syllables of your name shall echo
From every mountain to every rock.

By the weeping river of the innocent blood
We will watch the paper boats sail to a parallel land
Where I pluck dewdrops and daisies by your side
To decorate the fresh scars on the palm of your hand.

And finally, when the great war is over
And you see monuments turning into dust
You return to me, my love
For we will build our home on the rubble of oppressor’s lust.
