Can Kanhaiya Kumar’s inclusion in the Congress be articulated as a road map for the future with interim president Rahul Gandhi all for the youngsters taking the baton ahead? Gujarat Independent MLA Jignesh Mevani has ideologically affirmed his position of being by the Congress’s side though he will take the question of officially joining the Congress on a later date.
Maybe the Congress can benefit little from it as with caste alliances, coalition and equations but not to be confused; they have a task at hand — organisational overhaul and extension of grassroots workers and cadres committed to the ideology of the grand old party. Also, with their leadership in limbo, it would be better to deal and douse with crisis situation impacting and influencing the outcomes.
Elections for the party president should have taken place by now, but the repulsive interim president engaging in running the show from the margins has caused the greatest worries to G-23 leaders who were for sweeping reforms in the ranks and files of the party line. To their disadvantage, their doubts were dislodged with Sonia Gandhi excusing herself from the exercise. How else would their grievances be articulated and conducted if not for the first family sliding into oblivion?
States after states — from Punjab to Chattisgarh — have reported the high command’s highhandedness in picking and placing loyalists to key positions and places. Why would a Navjot Singh Sidhu resign as the PCC Chief with Charanjit Singh Channi being by his side? Pilot revolting against Gehlot, and Baghel against TS Singhdeo illustrates the merits of the fact with the Gandhis buying bargains.
Evolving a consensus and not confrontation could have been better for the party in the fray to become an alternative to the BJP fiercely and forcefully asserting itself with its muscle and might without conceding spaces to regional satraps like the AAP and TMC. But for that to actually happen, the onus will be on the grand old party to overcome the constraints and crisis at hand significantly, subjecting itself to scrutiny by the people. There is no point otherwise in hankering for a projection falling flat at its very inception.
