Quick Byte: Taliban Takes Over, Afghanis’ Future Hangs In The Balance

Afganistan is reeling with fear and furore as a Taliban takeover looks imminent. The Taliban is taking control of her cities and provinces, from Kandahar to Kabul.

Its leadership tried to buy time with the Taliban, to see if power sharing can be worked out. President Ashraf Ghani may not call it quits before trying his best to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty of his country, which are crucial to establish peace and harmony.

Re-engaging with the Taliban for a short term power sharing agreement can work for a while, but going back to the drawing board is what will decide the collective fate of this landlocked country.

The Taliban shouldn’t commit a foul either, by jumping the ship on the Doha understanding. Religious chauvinism, conservatism and bigotry can never lead to fair treatment of all, especially the women and religious minorities.

Already, the USA has played a risky move by withdrawing its troops stationed in this strategic region. Joe Biden and his democrats urgently owe an explanation to the Afghans and the rest of the world.
