Amir Khan’s movie ‘Taare Zameen Par (Stars in the World)’, is a Bollywood film that aims to explore children’s educational studies that include various social and psychological factors as well as diversity. His teachers called him “lazy”. The movie depicts a child suffering from dyslexia, a learning disability, which affects the brain’s ability to process, analyze or store information.
Ishaan’s Difficulties With Learning In The Movie
In the film ‘Taare Zameen Par’, the main character Ishaan Awasthi is an 8-year-old boy who is considered lazy. He does not show interest in school. At first, it seems that he is a naughty boy who would rather do his own things than listen to any adult. He also finds it difficult to focus on his schoolwork. He doesn’t pay attention to what the teacher says. His mind is always wondering.
Later, his parents came to know that he had a learning disability called dyslexia. In the event of the infection, the child cannot even hold the pencil properly just like Ishaan in the movie. He finds that all the subjects are difficult which is why they lose interest in the subjects. His reading, writing, and listening skills are very limited.
Ishaan Awasthi has been facing academic difficulties for a long time. He arrives late for school and forgets what assignment he has been given. His father always compared him to his older brother. One day her teacher asked him to read one paragraph in the book and he said that the words were dancing. He was often confused about letters, numbers, and word order. For example, when his art teacher examined his writing materials, he noticed flaws in the same letters.
He noticed a mixture of similar spellings such as TOP becomes POT and SOILED becomes SOLID. Another thing I noticed was that when his math teacher did his test he did only one question and found it difficult to do maths questions. Ishaan had trouble telling time to manage or keep time Also, he was blamed by the school for not getting his parent’s signature in poor grades on the exam. He often skipped classes to avoid being scolded by his teachers. He was frequently teased by his classmates for his troublesome behavior.
Ishaan enjoys hobbies, such as painting, puzzle-solving, and playing with pets. Ishaan Awasthi is aggressive. He is stubborn and rebellious. Example: His mother asked him to change clothes and wash his hands before eating, reminding him that he is not following instructions. He was known as a bully in the classroom and a troublemaker. For example, he was immature and careless; Ishaan had to deal with a moral dilemma. Ishaan strongly defends circumstances that cause him anxiety.
For example, Ishaan bunks a math class to avoid being punished by his teacher because he did not do his maths homework and did not give his exam paper to be signed by his parents. Ishaan experienced the frustration that led to extreme anger as he was often bullied and ridiculed by his friends and often punished by his teachers at school for his reading and writing problems. He often expresses his anger toward destructive behavior such as breaking things. For example, when he got involved in a fight with his friend Rajat, he became so angry that he broke all the pots that were planted in front of Rajat’s house with a hard kick. Ishaan’s Art And His Art Teacher
Ishaan Awasthi has Dyslexia which is one type of learning disability. However, Ishaan was not good at reading and writing skills. Ishaan was amazing at the arts, especially in painting. He had a talent for doing different things from the rubble. Ishaan also had a good long-term memory of experiences, places, and faces.
When he gets off the road alone, he goes back to school without getting lost. In addition to his creative skills, He had to deal with problems due to his dyslexia such as lack of peer acceptance, illiteracy, low self-esteem as a result of which his father punished him by getting bad grades at school by sending him to boarding school. Ishaan was always troubled by the new environment and experienced many problems such as isolation, fear, and depression due to his dyslexia. Ishaan also had a suicidal tendency for a moment.
One time his teacher goes to Ishaan’s house to meet his parents where he is surprised to see Ishaan’s hidden interest in art after looking at some of his paintings. This also included a look at his notebooks and notes on his problems. He explains how Ishaan has a hard time understanding letters and words due to dyslexia. He was surprised when Ishaan’s father called Ishaan’s behavior a mental disorder, dismissing it as an excuse for laziness.
Ishaan’s art teacher arranged an Art Mela at the end of the school year where Ishaan showed his proficiency for art.
His art teacher addresses him about their childhood dyslexia condition and how he coped with similar situations. He also takes permission from the principal to become Ishaan’s instructor and teaches him the techniques and techniques of correction developed by the dyslexia specialist and as a result, Ishaan grows his interest in studies, and his marks continue increasing at the same time.
At the end of the school year, an art teacher arranges an Art Mela for staff and students where Ishaan brings his own paint given to him by his brother and draws the painting on a chair. Ishan’s painting was awarded the best painting and was declared the winner of Art Mela. Ishaan shows his love and affection for gratitude to his art teacher by hugging him and eventually crying. When his parents came to collect his Progress Report from the teacher, they were amazed at Ishaan’s change and thanked his art teacher for understanding and helping Ishaan in his studies.
Etymologically, if people with dyslexia are unable to overcome problems and manage them promptly they will be successful in life. Therefore, a dyslexic can be treated to handle their mental state if treated on time. All they want is happy learning, support, care, affection, attention, and parents who understand their psychological well-being and give their constant support to overcome their mental state.
