Why is coronavirus killing people in India? It’s because of the negligence of the Indian government.
In my opinion, it is because of the negligence of the Indian government and it is a massacre for which the Indian government is responsible. I want to clarify that by Indian government, I means all the governments, be it any state or the Centre and I will present to you facts and insights to give more clarity.
Firstly, we should go in flashback to what happened last year. The world was hit by a pandemic. We weren’t aware of what this might mean and lockdowns were implemented in most of the world. Some counties were affected worse than the others but after that, all countries took steps to improve their health infrastructure and economy for their citizens.
There was a second wave in many countries, but they prepared for it and the effect, thus, has been less than that of the first wave. In contrast, our country’s government had almost a year to prepare for the second wave and the Indian government was aware of the high possibility of a second wave. We should ask the government why they didn’t have proper arrangements to fight the second wave? And why are a good health infrastructure and basic medical commodities not available to us?
Secondly, why were the governments organising events where a large number of citizens were invited? Election rallies, large religious events and crowded parties were being organised or hosted in India just after the start of the year, as if there was no pandemic. On the flip side, in other countries, Covid guidelines as advised by the WHO were still being followed.
Governments of other countries were busy arranging vaccination drives and making their health infrastructure strong. And on the other side, our leaders were busy telling lies to the citizens that we needn’t worry as we have defeated Covid and were going about conducting mass rallies, which became super spreaders.
We should also ask from our national media why they were covering election campaigns? It was their responsibility to stop the elections and tell the truth to the citizens.
We must ask some serious questions from our governments about who is responsible for this situation. In my point of view, had our governments taken the rights steps on time, we could have stopped mass destruction from happening. We should have been able to save the precious lives of so many of our citizens.
And that is why, the second wave health crisis can be called a ‘massacre’. Our governments behaved carelessly towards our citizens, causing them their death.
