Missing your formal dress and a dignified surrounding of your school or college classroom during the lockdown? We all have gone through a lot of changes and challenges during the coronavirus pandemic. These numberless experiences have been outstanding.
And work from home? What a way of pleasure and comfort at the same time for most people, but in my case, I have never believed in online work or working from home due to its efficiency in the teaching profession. Students of all age groups have been taking classes online. We are not going to the office to maintain physical distance.
But the office work knocks at our door along with several other challenges. When we started working from home last year, we were on cloud nine. We all needed a big break from our long, tedious working hours. The opportunity presented itself with a lot of benefits such as saving fare money and travel time by us all. After some time, we realised that it isn’t as easy as it seems, and things started looking different over time.Fr
Things go well when done separately. After we started working from home, the vilest aspect that came out of it was the mixing of our professional and personal lives.
Moreover, as we stopped going out for social gatherings, some of us started feeling isolated. Without any domestic help available to us, we faced a giant time crunch. Dealing with all the domestic and professional responsibilities simultaneously created a lot of stress and pressure, which is not good for mental health. Looking after family and kids becomes easy, but somewhere, we felt stuck in both the roles.
And then, there were plenty of chances we got to create blunders while managing numerous skills at the same time, such as attending calls while the whistle of the cooker goes off, making tea for family members, and of course, while washing clothes in the washing machine (an obsession with all generations alike). We were also teaching our kids as schools were closed and online classes weren’t as effective as live classes. The parents’ workload has enlarged as they are playing the role of an arbitrator in the learning process.
We are juggling between our personal and professional fronts. Earlier, we would come back and be free from all the office work, but trends have changes since work-from-home started. Our minds and bodies are always engaged in our profession, which does not allow us to feel enlightened. Going to an office or workplace and coming back filled everyone with a sense of satisfaction.
Everything has two aspects: positive and negative. Flexible working hours, working without having to wear any formal dress, saving on travel time and looking after your family are all good aspects of working from home. Depending on the profession, some work-from-home options are pretty cool. On the other hand, if I talk about taking classes on Zoom, Google Meet or any other app, it’s quite little challenging.
Imparting education is a process that needs the real presence of a teacher and students. A virtual classroom cannot take the place of live teaching. When a teacher is teaching their students, they not only use verbal communication, but also non -verbal communication such as body language, gestures, signs, symbols, nodding etc. Both kinds of communication make the learning process more effective as well as interesting.
Face-to-face discussions have their own significance that convey the right message to the audience. At last, I feel better working at the workplace rather working from home.
The beauty of a working place has fascinated me since childhood.
