Patriarchy and feminism are two popular words that have caught the attention of the youth today. The youth today raises its voice against the unjust grounds of patriarchy and for the need for feminism. We all are familiar with its effects and the need to eradication it.
But what are its causes? I wouldn’t deny the prejudices and stereotype prevailing in India are a big contributing factor but is that it? Women, too, are a cause of patriarchy.
Although India is emerging out of gender discrimination, however, still in many households, young girls are taught to do household chores that are considered basic for them by their mothers themselves. Instead of teaching their sons to respect women, women themselves are blamed for crossing their limits.
Girls are asked to choose their career paths that are well in accordance with their marriage. They are reminded that their parent’s house is not their house.
I request all the young girls out there to fight for their rights. One has to become a rebel in order to bring change. Women must work very hard to stand on their own feet, become independent and financially and emotionally stable to gain respect.
