The immediate spread of the coronavirus was something the world never expected. Work came to a standstill. Many industries were badly affected by the pandemic. Local shops and stalls were closed. In such bad times, it is difficult for us to believe in a ray of hope.
Many people started working from home. Work from home was altogether a different experience for many since the working environment was different. We had to stay with our families during the lockdown. This gave a new dimension to most of our relations. Handling children, their school and our work would have been a different experience for many.
I have listed down a few advantages and disadvantages of working from home:
Pros
- Spending quality time with your family is something that could only be possible during the lockdown. I was able to meet all my cousins since they were either working from home or their classes were conducted online.
- People who were travelling daily to reach offices did not need to do so.
- Any guest lecture or webinar that was conducted across the world could be attended online. IT saves the cost of travel. Also, as a medium of communication, online platforms can make global connections a lot easier.
Cons
- Many people do not find it comfortable to work when they are at home. The environment does not suit them. These people prefer getting ready to go to corporate firms and conduct meetings physically.
- There are some industries like manufacturing and travel where work from home is not possible. The employees working in these sectors were badly affected by the pandemic.
In such times, positive thinking plays an important role to keep us motivated. During this time, socialising was difficult. But at the same time, it was a great time to engage ourselves in various activities. We cannot expect the situations that can come up in our lives. But our attitude towards them is what matters.
Many of us took this as an opportunity to learn new skills. We should remember that time too shall pass. Try to make a routine and stick to it. This is also a great time to give importance to our health. We should do yoga or any other exercise. Keeping ourselves engaged is very important for our mental health.
When you get to bed, always be thankful to God for the things you have that many don’t. Try to find happiness. If there is someone who can make you happy, it is you.
Nobody can stop you from thinking about the brighter side of a situation. Every coin has two sides. Similarly, this pandemic also brought both good and bad things in our life.
We can also use social media to interact with people. For introverts, this is a good time to self-introspect and learn new things. However, for extroverts who love meeting new people and interacting with friends, online platforms can help in this.
