As Protests Rage On, Farmers Still Await Gratitude From Government

Following the failure of talks, the agitating farmers are still stressing upon the repeal of three farm laws, rejecting the government’s proposal for revisions. The farmer union leaders want a complete assurance on the minimum support price (MSP) regime and the mandi system. December 14 will be observed as a complete strike, as reported. The distressed farmers are determined to face a do or die situation.

They observed a Bharat Bandh on December 8. They do not appear to be in a relenting mood. More than two weeks have passed since their wide agitation. Every political party nearly supports them in its way. They are fully conversant with their farming insight. The leaders representing them have a political background that is not different from grass-root politicians. That’s why Opposition parties leaders are joining the farmers stir. In the age-old domain of agriculture, the farmers cannot leave the minimum price of the crop.

Farm, farming and farm laws are hotly discussed topics these days. The Congress party leaders and the BJP leaders are often seen at loggerheads on these related matters. Recently, Rahul Gandhi was chided for his complete unfamiliarity with farmers’ limitation.

The farmers surely stay longer in the field until the vast blue sky turns unpleasant pink and then purple and afterwards awful black. They only keep on staring at their soiled hands after the sunset. Have politicians not watched so much of the farmers’ life?

It appears that the farmers have been left in a lurch because all their labour and produce may not get an expected return in view of the fresh farm bills. Though the farmers are agitating for their cause, it does not suit the government. The hapless farmers bemoan that no one in the whole wide world would rather be too favourable or too frigid with them.
