Suvendu Adhikari’s resignation as a Trinamool MLA has brought Mamata Banerjee’s prospects in the state elections to a halt. Known for his organisational muscle and clout, Adhikari was considered a favourite of the Trinamool top brass commanding loyalty and obedience. He was the go-ahead man of Mamata for all seasons after the exit of Mukul Roy from Trinamool to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In my observation, the BJP has been quick to react and respond whenever it comes to taking chances, as the series of splits is becoming a characteristic feature of the ruling TMC in Bengal over the past few months.
If we were to believe Dilip Ghose, West Bengal BJP President, many disgruntled TMC workers and leaders are in the fray to join the BJP sooner than later, disapproving of Mamata’s anarchism and dictatorial assertion after the drubbing in the last year’s general elections. A dismayed Mamata quickly appointed key political strategist Prashant Kishor, keeping this fact in mind, ensuring the resurrection and revival of the party from within. I am yet to acknowledge myself, as I have not found any visible traces of it.
Why has Mamata began to mellow down her tone by conceding to the BJP for her stoic silence on the allegations and accusations have levelled against her by the saffron party. Or has she managed the mistrust within the party ranks and is keeping her cards closed to her chest for now as part of some coordinated strategy? Mamata didi, how will you communicate with the masses and voters if you remain stick to this strategy? Think over it for a while.
I remember how you valiantly fought the whisper campaign of the Congress CPM combined against your leadership and governance, and came up as a clear favourite in 2016. A little bit of push will see you ahead in a comfortable poll position, provided you are willing to take a lesson or two from your errors and mistakes of the past. Given your experience and capacity as a leader, orator, fighter and committed cadre of your party, you won’t shake our faith and belief in you. Any miscalculation or misjudgement now will be an advantage to the BJP in Bengal.
