Non-Secure And Non-Functional Portal Launched By the Govt For Transgender Persons

thumb

The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment e-launched an online portal on November 26th, 2020 to help Transgender persons apply for a Gender Identity Certificate online. Union Minister Thawarchand Gehlot said that Transgender persons can register their grievances via this portal, too.

I tried using the portal and following are my observations:

1) The Portal is not secure because it is using HTTP instead of HTTPS. Google Chrome says, “Something is severely wrong with the privacy of this site’s connection. If possible, don’t use the site. Someone might be able to see the information you send through this site. We suggest that you don’t enter any personal information on this page.”

2) For several states, the List of Districts is not available on the registration page. These states include Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Goa, etc.

3) On submitting the Registration Form, a pop-up message shows that a Password has been sent to the registered email using which a user has to log-in. However, I did not receive any email. I checked my Spam folder too and it did not have an email containing the password. I tried registering using 3 different email ids, but did not receive an email containing the password to log-in.

4) I then tried to contact the technical team, but the website does not have their contact information.

Given the data security risks involved, users must exercise caution and use their best judgement while submitting any personal information such as phone number, address, date of birth, gender identity, password, and more on this portal.
