Since the pandemic started, things have begun to worsen around the world.
At the start, all activities came to a halt with no movement of people, transport, and there was lots of silence all around.
But amidst these situations, there was one place that had its gates wide open, available at our service, without considering a single break. Yes, I am talking about hospitals, wherein our doctors, nurses, and health workers worked day and night to treat COVID-19 patients, and gave their best efforts, to provide facilities so that patients could recover and go back home safely.
We all agree that hospitals are treated as a hub for miracles, but considering the situation, unfortunately, they became a hub for spreading infections. During the last few months, a lot of non-critical and avoidable surgeries have been delayed and put on hold. Obviously, in many cases, the priority was to treat COVID patients.
Now, as time has passed, and things are beginning to normalise, the clinics and hospitals are reopening and commencing their services, but the fear to visit and consult the doctor is still looming.
Talking about my personal experience, I too went through this dilemma, two weeks ago, when I caught a cold. Now as you know, a cold is usually accompanied by a headache, body pain, and cough, so I was suffering from all of these.
As expected, I waited for one day to see improvement, but after two days, it got a little worse. I was not able to concentrate on my work and felt like my eyes were burning all the time. It was very irritating lying on the bed and doing nothing.
Now, before I proceed, let me tell you, for once, I thought to consult a doctor because I had a very important event taking place. I needed to be fit for that. But considering my health at the time, I stepped back from it.
I was very worried that if I went to the hospital and got infected with the virus, it would become really difficult for me. Even though I knew that the general ward was separate from the COVID ward and it was unlikely that I would come in contact with those patients and doctors, in one corner of my mind, I felt insecure about visiting the hospital.
As a result, I didn’t go to consult a doctor and just had a few common medicines for basic cold, treated myself at home with all the home remedies, and cured myself in five days.
To be very honest, I thought that if I would have consulted the doctor, I would have been cured in two days because the days were very disturbing for me, but the fear of infection overpowered the suffering I was going through.
I don’t know about the future, but personally, I would avoid going to hospitals and clinics until the virus goes away.
I am just wondering when things will become normal and when going to a hospital won’t be as scary as it seems right now!
