The answer is No. The India Media is certainly not biased. In fact, it has lost the ability to differentiate between what is ethical or unethical. The only thing it runs behind is viewership. The television media to be precise has become all about shouting aloud and speaking over others. Journalism has become more about feeding a certain perception into the public minds. Unfortunately, this is one of the most poisonous things to any democracy.
The more I delve into this question, the more I am encountered with an ill-fated picture of journalism.
How was News Media different previously?
About 15-20 years ago, the presentation of news was done in a different way. There was a news reader, whose job was to read out the news report “as it was”. Then there was a reporter who would go to the field and report the situation directly. The numbers of private news channels were lesser in number. therefore, the way of presenting the news was never altered. One could rely on watching these news channels if one wanted to know the facts.
What has changed now?
There is a rise in number of private channels which are sponsored by several Multinational Companies. These MNCs and other influential bodies have already developed strong political relationships. As a result, the news reporting on various channels is often seen as display of the news channels being puppets. More than a news channel, these are seen as one political party versus another.
Instead of presenting the news as it is, they bend and twist it with a perception that they want us to have . This also happens because they attempt to make the news interesting.
As a commoner, we must make sure that we do not lose our ability to think and make a judgment on our own. No one should feed their opinions into our minds. If this happens, it will be seen as the end of democracy and beginning of tyranny.
