In Indore, a shocking event of hate took place, which gave goosebumps to each and every citizen of India.
In April, a team of five persons, including three doctors, was sent by the Health Department to the Tat Patti Bakhal area of Indore (Madhya Pradesh) to inspect cases of COVID-19. However, the moment they started enquiring, the situation turned against them and people started protesting against the team. Soon, these people were joined by a larger group who started pelting stones at them. Amidst this, two female doctors suffered minor injuries.
In response to this incident, Indore’s Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Pravin Jadia said, “Our team is working to protect people from the coronavirus infection. But people pelted stones at them. It was an unfortunate incident.”
An FIR has been filed in Chattripura Police Station against these protestors leaving everyone with the question: are these people choosing corona over life by engaging in such activities? These people need to understand that this is a pandemic, which can destroy a country if escalated to its peak.
Moreover, for a country such as India, the pandemic can turn out to be a threat to its people and economy. The pandemic can not only ruin our economy (which it already has), but also give rise to poverty and hunger.
In this hard time, there is a need to trust doctors because they are serving the nation by risking their lives and playing a significant role in fighting against COVID-19. At the same time, there is a need to follow the government’s instructions too. Acts such as this should be strongly condemned and strict punishment should be given to those found guilty.
All radical groups and activists need to understand that this is not the time to fight with one another in the name of religion. This is not a Hindu-Muslim war and if we fail to understand this, the virus will surely destroy ‘all’ individuals. Thus, there is a need to stand strong with one other while cooperating with doctors and the government to save our country from the adversity of this dangerous pandemic.
