The pandemic has disrupted traditional teaching in every school across India. With several months lost due to the lockdown, the UGC and the HRD Ministry have decided to go ahead with conductin exams, possibly putting at risk the lives of millions of young Indians (given the fast increasing COVID-19 positive cases).
The CBSE syllabus has been shrunk by 30%, by excluding several crucial chapters, sparking a controversy. This is said to be a one-time measure, as per a statement by the CBSE.
Today the younger generation, who are the future leaders and building blocks of our great country, are exempt from studying about democratic rights, citizenship, democracy and diversity, challenges to democracy, ‘gender, religion, caste’, food security, and even about the popular struggles and movements.
These removed topics, chapters ideally represent the very great values, the core ethos for which our forefathers and our freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and countless others have sacrificed their everything, including their lives and fought against the British monarchy for our country’s Independence.
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States has once famously said: “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man’s character, give him power”.
Having said that, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of India with all its power in its hand should display its true character by retrospecting its actions, and correct itself before it’s too late.
