Quick Byte: Cyclone Nisarga To Hit Mumbai In The Next Couple Of Hours

Cyclone Nisarga in Mumbai
Yesterday, many regions in Maharashtra faced heavy rainfalls due to the then-anticipated cyclone.

Ever since the news of Cyclone Nisarga hitting Mumbai broke on Tuesday, the residents of India’s largest city have been busy preparing their homes in case of emergency.

According to the meteorological department, the storm has made landfall in South of Alibaug. The cyclone is said to be racing at the speed of 110 km/hour, and as per the last update, there were already strong winds and heavy rains in the Alibaug regions. It is expected to hit Mumbai in the next three hours.

Meanwhile, the Indian Coast Guard has deployed eight Disaster Relief Teams for Maharashtra, with some kept on standby in Goa, Karnataka and Kerala.

Yesterday, many regions in Maharashtra faced heavy rainfalls due to the then-anticipated cyclone; it is predicted that similar conditions will be faced by Rajasthan and Haryana later on today.

Cyclone Nisarga is a result of “deep depression in the south-east and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area intensifying into a cyclonic storm.”

It is said to be the first cyclonic storm in Mumbai in over a century.
