Are Online Examinations Feasible In India?

As the pandemic is taking a worse turn everyone is concerned about the future. From businesses being troubled and thousands of people being jobless, all people are suffering from it in various ways, the country’s economy is in very bad shape. This pandemic is also affecting students and their studies in a huge way as we can see that colleges have started with their online classes and now they are going to conduct online examinations too.

After this news has come to focus, students all over India are concerned as it would be a difficult situation for many students. The online examination would not help students in any way as various students would cheat and it would be unfair for the ones who have actually studied and worked hard for it. It’s illogical to think that everyone will cheat and in the same way, it is unbelievable to believe that no one will be cheating.

Online exams are not feasible as many students do not have the resources or environment to attempt them.

This is not the only reason online examination is not right, India is a country where various students come from remote places and we can’t help them in any way. I have recently shared a video on Instagram where students were talking about not conducting online exams and one girl shared a story of her friend who was from a rural village and just to attend the online classes she had to travel some distance from her home. There can be many students who don’t have their laptops and in a situation where earning has become so tough, you cant ask your parents to buy you a new one as it would not be a correct decision.

This online examination cannot help students with their growth in studies in any way because this online examination would only be a way to finish exams and start with a new semester. How can we expect the teachers who are themselves stuck at their home and after having house chores would have time to open and check all papers and questions and mark students.

This examination can wait, there is no way that it cannot. Every student can have various issues at their home; can be personal or the environment wouldn’t be preferable enough to have an examination. Even if we try to neglect all other issues, we can’t neglect the main issue which is internet and laptop availability, applying for an exam through your phone is not possible and can be very difficult for many and internet range is something we cannot trust upon at all. And what about the disabled students how are they going to apply for the exam? How are they going to get themselves a scribe for the exam?

The only possible way is to wait till college reopens and as soon as it does colleges can start conducting exams with maintaining proper social distancing norms. If we talk about colleges abroad conducting exams online that is because these countries have proper facilities and internet for it they don’t have students from villages or internet issues as us.

This online exam is definitely a con for college students and every college should keep a hold of exams till things get back to normal.
