I want an answer from every woman, do they still feel that they can live their lives as they want?
I am scared! I am scared of the fact that the accused will never get what they deserve and this will surely increase the statistics of crimes against women. Kindly think about it twice, do we need to change our laws and orders or something else? Or changing the constitution can bring a true change?
We talk about feminism, we talk that women should be bold and bright enough, we talk that women should enter into education, workplaces and businesses. But can we guarantee that they will be safe? Are they safe and secure in schools, job institutions, markets, trains, buses, hotels, temples? They are not even safe in their own homes
Are they the people of the same planet? How is raping someone so easy for them? Yet, she is not someone, she is your friend, girlfriend, wife, sister, housemaid, traveller, dreamer, achiever, successor and a mother of tomorrow.
If anything happens to any girl, I strongly feel that it would ultimately happen to me. A few days ago, I saw a man hitting his girlfriend. I sincerely feel that that slap is not just for her but to all women; it’s a slap which says that you’ll always be below us, the men.
What kind of justice does the ‘The Juvenile Justice Act’ provide? I do not understand. Doesn’t a minor know what sex is or how to perform it, when he was surfing on the internet and going through porn videos? Wake up Indians, and change your definition for minors now!
Our culture teaches us very well that men are the protectors of society, they are the bodyguards of humankind. Raksha Bandhan is all about a boy going to protect a girl. Marriage teaches us that your man is your protector!
We are just 19 or 20 we can’t change the constitution, we can’t change power politics, we can’t transform India. Like I can’t go out and punish the accused. But yes, we can change one thing i.e mentality. Surviving in the world of Google, Instagram and Facebook have taught us that any appeal can reach millions of people in minutes. This mentality of raping someone grows from anger, egoistic attitude, desire for lust, greediness, watching porn, thinking of a woman as an object and much more. This mentality encourages a man who thinks that women belong to a secondary level of society; those who reduce women to their bodies.
I wish for men to not do that. I feel hurt when I hear a boy speaking “she is not that interesting, man”. Is she a subject, you rascal? I see my college mates calling girls’ names with ‘gaali’ (abuse). Who the hell gave them the right to criticize her and call her that?
I am not a revolutionary who can change anything overnight, but I am willing and determined to change the attitude of all men around me because no constitutional change or self-defence class can modify a man’s attitude towards a woman.
