What should an ideal office look like? I am still a student, preparing for my masters in journalism and mass communication, waiting for this lockdown and quarantine situation to get over and also to get done with the exams and get admitted to my desired college. I have still not experienced corporate life or still have not gotten a ‘job’. But I know I soon would end up in a well-paying job.
Now, the answer to the above question on what should an ideal office look like. For me, it should look like a place which is similar to a place like your own home. It should have positive vibes. It should have a healthy, and safe, and a secure environment. It should look like a place where everyone is treated with respect, especially women employees. Their male counterparts should refrain from harassing their female colleagues, as if they think that they are superior to them or that they have the right over their bodies.
If cases of sexual harassment do exist in an office, then the person who is being harassed should be encouraged, not discouraged, to go to the higher authorities and report the case. The authorities should then take action effective immediately and expel the perpetrator from the organisation in which they are working. Here, the person who is being targeted can be anyone- a man or a woman.
An ideal office should look like a place where there is equality in each and every aspect. There should be no pay disparity between the employees as all work really hard to meet the ‘deadly’ timelines. All the employees should have equal say in each and every meeting and presentation.
An ideal office should also have a place for Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) in which helps the employees to de-stress themselves from their hectic work and life schedule. This includes playing team-building games which will further help them to improve their efficiency.
If this lockdown has taught me anything, it’s the value of life. And to implement it further every office should have meditation sessions to help people de-stress themselves.
