I am Dattatreya, a medical student and a researcher on mental health. I believe prevention is better than cure, without a healthy mind, no one can live happily. I am undertaking research on mental health for a year, where I have studied several research papers to identify the real mental health problems of the youth. I also belong to the same age group so it is easier for me to relate to their condition.
Depression, stress and anxiety are the dominant issues plaguing the youth, many people are affected by this. It is an iceberg disease, thus, early identification is always important. If you feel that you might have any of these problems, then don’t waste any time and consult a psychologist at the earliest. There is nothing bad in consulting a psychologist. Early detection along with proper guidance is essential to cure either depression, stress or anxiety.
I feel internet and smartphone addiction is the second biggest issue amongst the youth. A scale called Young’s Internet Addiction Test Scale can help determine the extent of addiction in an individual. Technology and devices surely play an upper hand on one’s knowledge and staying updated, but constant usage can hamper your eyes, cognition and much more. Reading books, talking to your family and socialising are also crucial and instrumental in the betterment of mental health.
Sharing, reading, staying in a healthy positive environment is helpful to easily sail through all these problems. Try to be positive and if you think you cannot control or deal with your thoughts alone, share it with your closed ones and seek therapy!
